SkyWater Technology acquires Infineon's Austin wafer fab to boost U.S. chip production capacity

SkyWater Technology has reached an agreement with Infineon Technologies AG to acquire Infineon's 200mm wafer fab in Austin, Texas, and sign a corresponding long-term supply agreement. The move is aimed at increasing the available production capacity of basic chips in the United States, which are critical for many industrial, automotive and defense applications at nodes ranging from 130nm to 65nm. Fab 25 will be operated by SkyWater as a foundry, providing 65nm infrastructure, expanded copper processing scale and high-voltage bipolar-CMOS-DMOS (BCD) technology.
