Panasonic announces mass production of 4680 cylindrical automotive lithium batteries

Panasonic Corporation officially announced that its subsidiary Panasonic Energy has begun mass production of 4680 cylindrical automotive lithium batteries. This new battery has five times more capacity than traditional 2170 batteries and can significantly increase the driving range of electric vehicles while reducing the number of batteries required, thereby improving the assembly efficiency of battery packs and reducing the cost of electric vehicles. Panasonic said it expects to have about 400 employees involved in the research and development and production of new batteries by March 2025.
