Baidu Apollo is one of the earliest companies in the field of autonomous driving in China. In 2014, the Silicon Valley branch of Baidu Research Institute was established. In 2015, Baidu began to invest in the research and development of driverless car technology on a large scale. At present, the company has three major businesses, including L4 autonomous driving business, advanced auxiliary map and assisted driving business. It was officially released on April 19, 2017. As of January 2, 2024, the cumulative number of orders provided by Baidu's autonomous driving travel service platform Luobo Kuaipao on open roads exceeded 5 million, firmly ranking as the world's largest autonomous driving travel service provider.
