The United Auto Workers (UAW) said on March 6 that workers at General Motors' joint battery plant with South Korea's LG Energy Solution overwhelmingly approved the first contract signed between the UAW and the company. Under the contract, the company will pay workers a one-time $3,000 payment to bring the wages of workers at the battery plant in line with the wages of Ultium workers at a plant in northeastern Ohio. In addition, the starting salary of workers at the battery plant will increase from the current $26.91 to $35 by September 2027.
