Chipmaker Wolfspeed announced that it has hired industry veteran Robert Feurle as its new CEO. Former CEO Gregg Lowe was suddenly removed by the board of directors in November 2024. Robert Feurle has served in senior executive positions at Micron Technology for ten years and will officially replace Thomas Werner on May 1. Robert Feurle previously served as executive vice president of the optoelectronic semiconductor business unit at European semiconductor company ams-OSRAM. He also worked for chipmaker Infineon. In response to slowing orders in the automotive, industrial and energy end markets, Wolfspeed has reformed its operations, including closing some factories in 2024 to improve profitability.
