Volkswagen's plant in Osnabrück may usher in major changes and may be transformed into a military production base in the future. Recently, Armin Papperger, CEO of German military giant Rheinmetall, led a team to visit the plant and held talks with Alexander Vlaskamp, CEO of Volkswagen subsidiary MAN, and Gunnar Kilian, a senior executive of the Volkswagen Group, to discuss whether to cooperate in the production of military vehicles here. Currently, the plant has about 2,300 employees and mainly produces the T-Roc convertible model. According to the plan, the model is expected to be discontinued in the summer of 2027, when the factory will face a business window period, so Volkswagen is considering other production directions to keep the factory running.
