Risks to Europe's auto industry's reliance on Chinese and US hardware and cloud services

Georges Massing, a senior executive of Mercedes-Benz Group's autonomous driving business, said at an industry conference in Berlin that Europe's auto industry is at risk due to its increasing reliance on artificial intelligence (AI). Massing stressed that although the development of artificial intelligence requires more efficient on-board computer systems, Europe has made little investment in this area. In addition, Europe lacks the cloud computing infrastructure and hardware R&D capabilities required to train AI models. Massing called on Europe to build its own high-performance chip and cloud service providers.
