ON Semiconductor has stopped investing in its silicon carbide (SiC) power management IC plant in South Korea. The decision was made due to the slowdown in electric vehicle sales by Korean automakers and the increased demand for Si IGBT chips used in economical electric vehicles. According to sources, ON Semiconductor has recalled most of the engineers at the Bucheon plant in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, back to the United States.
