Nissan Motor launched the "Phoenix Plan" reform: global production capacity was reduced by 20% (about 1 million vehicles), 9,000 employees were laid off (including 2,500 management positions and 6,500 front-line positions), and three overseas factories were closed. At the same time, production capacity was reduced by 20%. The global total production capacity was reduced from 5 million vehicles to 4 million vehicles, and the production capacity of Chinese factories was reduced from 1.5 million vehicles to 1 million vehicles. Factories in many places were closed or reorganized.
