Nissan is considering closing its two major plants in Japan, the Oppama Plant and the Shonan Plant, to cope with overproduction caused by sluggish sales. The production capacity of these two plants accounts for 30% of Nissan's total domestic production capacity. However, Nissan later issued a clarification announcement stating that the news about the factory closure was based on speculation and was not an official announcement. At the same time, Nissan plans to concentrate its pickup Frontier/Navarra produced in Mexico and Argentina at its Civac plant in Morelos, Mexico.
