Japanese auto brands such as Toyota, Suzuki, Honda, Nissan and Daihatsu dominate the Japanese market, leaving little room for foreign competitors. These brands have established a loyal consumer base through years of operation. Last year, sales of imported cars in Japan were about 230,000 units, accounting for 5% of total new car sales in Japan. Among them, sales of American auto brands were only more than 16,000 units. German brands such as Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Volkswagen dominate the Japanese imported car market.
