Mercedes-Benz develops large battery plug-in hybrid model

Mercedes-Benz is developing a large-battery plug-in hybrid model for the Chinese market, although the official has denied the plan. The new car will adopt a gasoline-electric co-drive design and focus on ultra-long range to cope with the competition in the domestic extended-range market. However, the range of plug-in hybrid models sold by Mercedes-Benz in China is significantly different from that of domestic competitors, resulting in poor sales. In the first quarter of 2025, Mercedes-Benz's global net profit plummeted by 43%, and a 10% decline in sales in the Chinese market was the main reason.
