OpenAI plans to acquire AI device startup io

OpenAI will acquire io, an AI device startup co-founded by former Apple design director Jony Ive and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, for approximately $6.5 billion. It is reported that io's 55 employees will join OpenAI, and Ive will be responsible for OpenAI's creativity and design work, but will not become an OpenAI employee. The acquisition marks OpenAI's intention to develop AI-driven consumer hardware devices.
