Malaysian automaker Proton is considering setting up a pure electric vehicle assembly plant in the Central Asian country of Kazakhstan. As Malaysia's first state-owned automaker, Proton plans to explore assembly opportunities for its e.MAS series of electric vehicles in Kazakhstan. It is worth mentioning that Malaysia hopes that by 2030, electric and hybrid vehicles will account for 20% of the Malaysian new car market. In the first four months of this year, Malaysia's pure electric vehicle sales increased by 54% year-on-year to 9,719 units; among them, Proton e.MAS7 contributed 2,537 units of sales.
