Broadcom abandons plans for Spanish semiconductor factory

US chipmaker Broadcom announced that it would no longer invest $1 billion to build a semiconductor packaging and testing plant in Spain due to a breakdown in negotiations with the Spanish government. The plan was originally a key part of the EU's efforts to enhance its domestic chip manufacturing capabilities.
