Cadence fined $140 million for illegally selling chip design software and hardware to Chinese schools

The U.S. Department of Justice announced that EDA company Cadence has admitted to illegally selling chip design software and hardware to Chinese universities and has agreed to pay a $140 million fine. Cadence sold its products to the National University of Defense Technology through various companies, violating U.S. export controls.
