BMW and Toyota team up to build hydrogen fuel cell SUV

BMW and Toyota announced that they will launch the iX5 Hydrogen, a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle based on the X5 platform, in 2028. This model will be the world's first mass-produced hydrogen fuel cell luxury SUV. The two companies will jointly develop third-generation fuel cell systems, with Toyota providing core stack technology and BMW responsible for system integration and vehicle development. BMW and Toyota also plan to jointly build hydrogen refueling stations to address shortcomings in hydrogen energy infrastructure.
