In August 2025, the French new car market saw its first growth, with new car registrations reaching 87,850 units, a year-on-year increase of 2.2%. However, cumulative sales still fell by 7.1% year-on-year to 1,046,432 units. Hybrid and pure electric vehicles continued to climb, with hybrid models accounting for a combined 45.2%. Although plug-in hybrids fell by 5%, they still maintained a 6.7% share. Driven by subsidy policies, pure electric vehicles rebounded strongly, with sales reaching 16,992 units in August, a year-on-year increase of 29.3%, and market share rising to 19.3%. Gasoline car sales fell by 32.4%, with a market share of only 20.9%; diesel car sales fell even more, down 26.9% year-on-year, and their share shrank to less than 5%.
