French new car market to grow for the first time in August 2025

In August 2025, the French new car market saw its first growth, with new car registrations reaching 87,850 units, a year-on-year increase of 2.2%. However, cumulative sales still fell by 7.1% year-on-year to 1,046,432 units. Hybrid and pure electric vehicles continued to climb, with hybrid models accounting for a combined 45.2%. Although plug-in hybrids fell by 5%, they still maintained a 6.7% share. Driven by subsidy policies, pure electric vehicles rebounded strongly, with sales reaching 16,992 units in August, a year-on-year increase of 29.3%, and market share rising to 19.3%. Gasoline car sales fell by 32.4%, with a market share of only 20.9%; diesel car sales fell even more, down 26.9% year-on-year, and their share shrank to less than 5%.
