The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced a preliminary investigation into the Tesla Model Y. The investigation focuses on the operability of the vehicle's exterior electronic door locks, as the model's electronic door handles completely fail when undervoltage occurs, and there's no manual way to open the doors. Previously, NHTSA received numerous complaints from owners who reported being unable to open their doors and gain entry, with some even having to smash windows to regain entry. The preliminary assessment of the investigation reportedly involves approximately 174,000 2021 Tesla Model Y vehicles.
