IonQ CEO Niccolò de Masi stated that the company plans to launch a quantum computing chip with 10,000 qubits by 2027, which will render Nvidia's Blackwell architecture GPUs obsolete. IonQ has accelerated its technological progress through the acquisition of Oxford Ionics in the UK and expects to scale its quantum processor to tens of thousands of qubits by 2027. IonQ's quantum chip utilizes an "ion trap" architecture, which, unlike superconducting quantum computers developed by IBM and Google, does not require an extremely low-temperature environment.
