Nissan Motor announced that it will close its two design studios in San Diego, USA, and São Paulo, Brazil, by March 2026, and reduce some design functions in London and Japan, as part of its "cost reduction and efficiency improvement" strategy. Following the restructuring, Nissan's design functions will be centralized across its Global Design Center in Atsugi, Japan; Los Angeles, USA; London, UK; Shanghai, China; and the IdeaBox studio in Tokyo. Nissan's global design chief stated that this overhaul will shorten design cycles by approximately 40% and reduce development costs by approximately a quarter.
