According to sources familiar with the matter, CATL plans to launch a new generation of 8-series high-nickel batteries next year, which are expected to be installed in extended-range models from several leading emerging brands. This battery has an energy density of approximately 200Wh/kg, approximately 30% higher than lithium iron phosphate batteries. However, high-nickel batteries present significant safety challenges and have been the subject of several thermal runaway incidents. CATL has consistently researched and developed this technology and has publicly emphasized its importance to the high-end market.
