Volkswagen Group announces it will abandon its own software development route

Volkswagen Group recently announced a major strategic shift, abandoning its in-house software development strategy and downgrading its software subsidiary, CARIAD, from a "core developer" to a "partner coordinator." Instead of core software development, CARIAD will focus on two key responsibilities: maintaining the stable operation of Volkswagen's existing software platforms and acting as a "coordinator" to integrate systems developed by external partners like Xpeng and Rivian into Volkswagen's vehicles.
