US battery startup Peak Energy and Jupiter Power have partnered to deploy sodium-ion battery energy storage systems.

US battery startup Peak Energy and developer Jupiter Power announced plans to deploy a total of 4.75 gigawatt-hours of sodium-ion battery energy storage systems between 2027 and 2030. This move is seen as the strongest challenge sodium-ion batteries have posed to traditional lithium-ion batteries. However, for sodium-ion batteries to succeed, they still need to overcome challenges in technology, the market, and the supply chain.
