Cariad's "Technology Arms Race": 1,000 Patents in Five Years

Founded in 2020, Cariad is tasked with the Volkswagen Group's strategic mission of "reducing reliance on external technology suppliers." In just five years, its annual patent applications are projected to exceed 250 by 2025, representing a 17% year-on-year increase. Particularly noteworthy is the 44% growth in patents related to autonomous driving, making it the biggest growth engine. Since its establishment in 2020, Cariad, a software subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, has filed over 1,000 patent applications, more than 900 of which are from Germany.
