Mercedes-Benz is considering sharing its South African factory with Great Wall Motors.

Mercedes-Benz is in talks with Great Wall Motors to explore the possibility of sharing its manufacturing plant in East London, South Africa. If successful, this would be a significant example of overseas production cooperation between a traditional luxury car manufacturer and a Chinese automaker. Sources familiar with the matter revealed that the two sides have already discussed joint production at the East London plant. Great Wall Motors has submitted a production proposal to local government authorities. The form of cooperation may include joint production or contract manufacturing, but nothing has been finalized.
