The US electric vehicle market is experiencing a downturn.

In the first quarter of 2026, only 212,600 new electric vehicles were sold in the United States, a 28% year-on-year decrease. The share of electric vehicles in total new vehicle sales in the United States fell to about 5.8%, far lower than 7.5% in the third quarter of 2025.
