Nissan is working with multiple organizations to research SOFC (solid oxide) fuel cell systems for drones. The system uses bioethanol as fuel and aims to solve the problem of traditional PEFC fuel cell systems relying on hydrogen. SOFC systems do not require expensive platinum and can use high-temperature reaction heat to extract hydrogen, which is expected to solve the problems of hydrogen storage and social infrastructure construction. However, SOFC faces problems such as carbon dioxide emissions during driving, long startup time and low energy density per unit weight.
