Samsung's FDP SSD reduces storage costs for hyperscale data centers through flexible data placement technology. The technology, jointly promoted by Samsung, Meta and Google, supports two modes: FDP on and off, is compatible with traditional SSDs, and reduces write amplification. Tests at the Xi'an Samsung Electronics Research Institute show that after the FDP function is turned on, the performance of the FDP plug-in based on the RocksDB database is significantly improved, with write amplification reduced from 3.24 to 1.73, IOPS increased by 55%, and P99 latency decreased by 28%. Samsung will support the FDP function in the latest generation of data center SSDs.
