On April 19, 2022, CATL released the condensed matter battery at the Shanghai Auto Show. The battery's single energy density can reach up to 500 Wh/kg, which is significantly higher than the current mainstream ternary lithium batteries and lithium iron phosphate batteries. The condensed matter battery uses a high-power bionic condensed matter electrolyte with a micron-level adaptive mesh structure, which can improve battery dynamic performance and lithium ion transport efficiency. In addition, condensed matter batteries also integrate material systems such as high-specific-energy positive electrodes, new negative electrodes, and separators. Wu Kai, chief scientist of CATL, revealed that condensed matter batteries are being jointly developed for civilian electric manned aircraft projects.
