Mitsubishi Electric plans to build a new silicon carbide (SiC) power semiconductor plant in Kikuchi City, Kumamoto Prefecture, with an estimated investment of approximately 100 billion yen (approximately RMB 4.856 billion). The new plant is scheduled to begin operations in April 2026, when the company's wafer production capacity will increase by about five times compared to 2022. The new building has six floors with a total construction area of approximately 42,000 square meters and will be used to produce SiC wafers with a diameter of 200 mm (8 inches). All processes will be connected by an automatic conveying system to improve production efficiency.
