Tao Lin, vice president of Tesla, recently announced on Weibo that Tesla has released the design of its vehicle electronic wiring harness interface on its official website, and called on more equipment suppliers and car companies to jointly promote the unified standards of vehicle electronic connectors to achieve cost reduction and efficiency improvement in the entire wiring harness industry. Tao Lin said that the electronic wiring harness of a vehicle is like the human nervous system, and the electronic connector is the key node connecting different wiring harnesses of the vehicle. At present, the wiring harness and electronic connector industry is still one of the components with the lowest degree of automation and the lowest degree of standardization in the automotive industry. There are more than 200 types of connectors in the industry, and hundreds of thousands are used in a car. These connectors have little difference in function, but the shapes are varied, which makes it difficult to automate and intelligently produce on a large scale, reduce production efficiency and increase production costs. Through the efforts of Tesla's global R&D team, the company can now unify connectors with more than 200 different interfaces into 6 standard interfaces, which can meet more than 90% of power supply and signal transmission needs. In this way, the failure rate and cost of production will be greatly reduced.
