In September 2024, VisionPower Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (VSMC) and NXP Semiconductors (NXP) jointly established a joint venture, VSMC (VisionPower Semiconductor Manufacturing Company), and held a groundbreaking ceremony for a 12-inch (300mm) wafer fab in Tampines, Singapore on December 4. The total investment in the wafer fab is approximately US$7.8 billion, and mass production is expected to begin in 2027. If the first wafer fab is successfully mass-produced, the two companies will consider future business development and evaluate whether to build a second wafer fab. It is expected that by 2029, the monthly production capacity of the wafer fab will reach 55,000 12-inch wafers, creating approximately 1,500 jobs, and will also promote the further development of the semiconductor ecosystem in Singapore and the world.
