The U.S. Department of Commerce announced on November 15 that it has decided to provide TSMC's U.S. subsidiary in Arizona with a $6.6 billion government subsidy for semiconductor production. TSMC plans to use the funds to build a third wafer fab in Phoenix, Arizona, with a total investment of more than $65 billion. The plant will produce advanced chips, including 5-nanometer and 6-nanometer chips. In addition, TSMC will receive a $5 billion low-interest government loan.
