Trump said in an October 26 podcast interview that he was critical of the government's spending billions of dollars to subsidize chip companies to build factories in the United States. He believes that a better way to achieve this goal is through a series of tariffs. Trump has promised that if he is elected president, he will lower taxes, relax regulations, and impose 10% to 20% tariffs on goods imported from other parts of the world to achieve what he calls a "manufacturing renaissance."
