GlobalWafers plans to build new 12-inch wafer fabs in Europe and the United States. The first phase of the Italian 12-inch fab is expected to invest 420 million euros, with a government subsidy of nearly 25%. Samples will be sent to customers for certification in the third quarter, and mass production is planned for next year, with a monthly production capacity of less than 100,000 wafers. In addition, the 12-inch fab in Texas, USA, plans to send samples in the fourth quarter, with an investment of approximately US$2.2 billion. The company is in in-depth discussions with the US government on subsidies. GlobalWafers' silicon carbide (SiC) performance grew 10 times last year, and it was originally optimistic that this year's performance would grow another 2 to 3 times. However, due to weak demand in the electric vehicle market, product prices are facing downward pressure, and this year's performance will be lower than expected, with an increase of about 50%.
