South Korea's SK Semiconductor announced that it has successfully obtained the key device characteristics of gallium nitride and plans to complete the development by the end of the year. The new product is a 650V GaN HEMT, which is expected to be used in high-speed charging adapters, LED lighting, data centers, ESS, and solar micro inverters. In 2022, SK Semiconductor was acquired by SK Hynix and became its subsidiary. Prior to this, SK Semiconductor has been focusing on 8-inch silicon-based semiconductor foundry business. Since its independence from Magna Semiconductor in 2020, it has become a pure wafer foundry.
