Cost Analysis of Silicon Carbide Devices

In the cost structure of silicon carbide devices, substrates, epitaxy, and devices account for 46%, 23%, and 20%, respectively. The substrate is the core of silicon carbide cost reduction. At present, the price of a 6-inch silicon carbide substrate is around US$900 per piece, which is several times that of traditional silicon-based semiconductors. In the future, silicon carbide substrates are expected to further reduce production costs and improve market competitiveness by increasing material utilization, developing to larger sizes, improving yields, and improving crystal growth processes.
