MediaTek Inc. is a world-renowned fabless semiconductor company that focuses on wireless communications and digital multimedia technologies, providing chip solutions for smartphones, smart homes, the Internet of Things, automotive electronics and other products. Founded in 1997 and headquartered in Hsinchu, Taiwan, MediaTek is currently the world's fourth largest fabless semiconductor company and one of the world's largest smartphone chip suppliers. MediaTek drives more than 2 billion devices worldwide each year, covering more than 30% of home environments. MediaTek's predecessor was the multimedia department of UMC. It was separated from UMC in 1997 and opened up the market for related products such as optical storage, DVD and Blu-ray, starting with optical disc drive chips. In 2001, MediaTek was listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange. In 2002, MediaTek began to enter the field of wireless communications. In 2010, MediaTek launched its first 3G mobile phone chip MT6573, which supports both WCDMA and TD-SCDMA standards, marking the official entry of MediaTek into the 3G era. At the same time, MediaTek also began to enter the high-end market and launched the 4G mobile phone chip MT6595 that supports LTE, making MediaTek the world's first chip manufacturer that can provide a complete 4G solution. In 2011, MediaTek merged with Taiwan's Wi-Fi chip manufacturer Ralink Technology, acquiring technologies such as Wi-Fi, non-mobile applications, wireless DSL and Ethernet, and expanding its layout in the field of wireless connectivity. In 2017, MediaTek also launched the first 10-nanometer 4G chip MT6799, which supports dual cameras, face recognition, virtual reality and other functions, demonstrating its progress in chip manufacturing and artificial intelligence. At the same time, MediaTek also began to deploy 5G technology and cooperate with China Mobile, Huawei, ZTE and others. In 2018, MediaTek launched its first AI chip MT8516, which supports Google's intelligent voice assistant platform Google Assistant, providing powerful AI capabilities for smart homes and IoT products. In 2019, MediaTek launched its first 5G chip MT6885, which uses a 7-nanometer process. In 2020, MediaTek launched the first 6nm 5G chip, MT6893.
