World Advanced Semiconductor and Episil Technology announced plans to jointly build an 8-inch wafer fab dedicated to the production of silicon carbide (SiC) chips. World Advanced Semiconductor has decided to purchase a 13% stake in Episil for NT$2.48 billion (approximately US$77.1 million or RMB 550 million). The two companies said they will subscribe to 50 million shares of Episil through a private placement, with each share priced at NT$49.6. This offer is 20% lower than Episil's closing price of NT$61.9 yesterday. Episil Technology said that the cooperation with World Advanced Semiconductor focuses on the development and future mass production of 8-inch silicon carbide semiconductor wafer manufacturing technology. The relevant technology will initially be transferred from Episil Technology, and mass production is expected to begin in the second half of 2026.
