The number and quantity of automobile recalls in China will both reach new highs in 2024

According to the State Administration for Market Regulation, by the end of 2024, China had implemented a total of 3,075 automobile recalls, involving 114 million vehicles. Among them, a total of 233 automobile recalls were carried out in 2024, involving 11.237 million vehicles, an increase of 8.9% and 67% over the previous year. The number of recalls of new energy vehicles reached 89 times, involving 4.491 million vehicles, an increase of 180.1% year-on-year, accounting for 40% of the total recalls for the whole year. In addition, the number of recalls through remote upgrades (OTA) was 19 times, involving 4.068 million vehicles, an increase of 246.8% year-on-year, showing that OTA has become the main method of automobile recalls. Driven by the State Administration for Market Regulation, the number of recalls reached 26 times, involving 5.672 million vehicles, an increase of 42% year-on-year, accounting for 50.5% of the total recalls for the whole year.
