Indian semiconductor manufacturer SiCSem held a groundbreaking ceremony in Bhubaneswar for its silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductor manufacturing facility, marking the official start of construction on the country's first SiC semiconductor factory. The factory represents a total investment of approximately 20 billion rupees (approximately 1.604 billion yuan) and is expected to be operational between 2027 and 2028, with a planned annual production capacity of 60,000 SiC wafers and a packaging capacity of approximately 960 million wafers. The project has also received strong support from the Indian government and is considered a crucial component of the sustained rapid expansion of India's electronics industry in recent years, potentially further strengthening the country's domestic presence in the third-generation semiconductor field.
