STMicroelectronics, in collaboration with Samsung Foundry, has successfully developed an embedded phase change memory (ePCM) manufacturing process based on 18nm FD-SOI technology, which will help improve both performance and power consumption in the automotive electronics field. The first STM32 microcontroller based on the new technology is expected to be sampled to some customers in 2024 and officially put into production in 2025. This technology will bring high-performance, low-power, and large-storage capacity wireless MCU solutions to the automotive electronics field, meeting the market's growing demand for edge AI processing, multi-RF protocol stacks, wireless updates, and advanced security features.
