Volkswagen's CARIAD and STMicroelectronics jointly develop automotive chips

CARIAD, a software company under the Volkswagen Group, and STMicroelectronics (ST) announced a collaboration to develop automotive system-on-chips (SoCs). The two parties plan to have TSMC manufacture SoC wafers for STMicroelectronics to ensure the supply security of key chips in the next few years. CARIAD will establish a direct partnership with Volkswagen Group's second- and third-tier semiconductor suppliers for the first time, and specify that the CARIAD regional architecture of the group's first-tier suppliers will only use the system chips developed by the company and STMicroelectronics and STMicroelectronics' Stellar standard MCU.
