Mitsubishi Electric Corporation recently announced (January 23, 2024) that it will launch six new J3 series power semiconductor modules for various electric vehicles (xEV). These modules use silicon carbide metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistors (SiC-MOSFET) or RC-IGBT (Si)*1, with compact design and scalability, and can be used in inverters for electric vehicles (EV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV). Mitsubishi Electric plans to double its investment amount to build an 8-inch SiC wafer factory and related facilities, while strengthening industry vertical cooperation to jointly develop high-quality 8-inch SiC substrates. Through a stable supply of SiC power semiconductors, it can meet the rapidly growing needs of markets such as electric vehicles. Mitsubishi Motors 8-inch SiC wafers for electric vehicles and J3 series EV T-PM for electric vehicles. The J3 series EV T-PM for electric vehicles is another important product newly developed by Mitsubishi Electric for the electric vehicle market. The same package is compatible with RC-IGBT (750V/400A) and SiC (1300V/350A), fully adapting to mid-to-high-end models.
